The Reverend David D. Colby
David has his roots in the Saint Paul area and received his undergraduate degree with honors from Macalester College in Saint Paul, Phi Beta Kappa and Magnum Cum Laude. In receiving his Master of Divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, David received awards in Old Testament and Systematic Theology as well as being recognized for the highest excellence in his class. David has nearly completed his Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary, specializing in generational differences and how people join and participate in congregations. He has been ordained since August, 1997.
David not only has extensive education, but also has the ability to put that tremendous asset to work for our church and the larger community. David has vitality, vision and a sense of caring for each individual that balances that vision with daily pastoral responsibilities.
Prior to his arrival as Central's pastor in February 2005, Colby served locally as the Interim Associate Pastor at Macalester Plymouth United Church in St. Paul for eighteen months. From 1997 - 2003, he served as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Children at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington Delaware for six years. David has had several other church related positions and roles in the years leading up to his ministry in Wilmington. His Saint Paul ties and his downtown experience in Delaware are an added asset.
David and his wife Laura Clay live here in Saint Paul. Laura is a family practice physician and works in nearby West Saint Paul. They love to spend time together outdoors, especially on rugged backpacking trips. Dave is an avid reader and his hobbies include tennis, cross-country skiing and walking with his dog “Calvin.”
